Flowers & Lace

I guess it doesn’t get more romantic than flowers and lace, unless you’re on a romantic dinner date at your favorite special-occasion restaurant with your hunny, without even having a special occasion to celebrate. We stopped to take a couple of photos in the garden behind the restaurant, where they grow many of their fresh and delicious ingredients. We were also able to take in the solar eclipse, courtesy of some of our friends lending us their special protective eye ware. And that was a sight to see! I hope some of you were able to see it.

I'm wearing a vintage dress worn as a shirt, F21 lace shorts, vintage purse, Steve Madden platforms, and Ray Ban sunnies.

And here is the man behind the camera, my inspiration for all things, my boyfriend.

Multi-Prints

I’ve been on a hiatus due to my school projects taking up every spare second of my time outside of work. But it’s ok because I’m learning and growing so much creatively and now… school’s out for summer! And I’m hoping to take a lighter load next year so I can keep up with everything. I hope you all have been well!

I'm wearing a Gap top, J.Crew cafe capris, Guess pumps, Kate Spade bag, Ray Ban club master sunglasses, and a Banana Republic chain necklace

Also wearing a Michael Kors watch, and bracelets by J.Crew and David Yurman
I wore this to lunch with my hunny and to visit a local vintage shop today. It’s been warm enough to go jacket-less, which I love, but I always have my SPF umbrella handy to stay protected from the sun. My boyfriend made it for me and I’ll for sure post pics of it soon since it’s my favorite summer accessory.

Much Love!

Check It

Hey Everybody!

It feels like it’s been forever, but it’s only been a couple of days… strange how that works. It was my boyfriend’s birthday yesterday so I’ve been spending the last few days trying to make him feel special and loved. He recently lost his eyeglasses and since he’s in school and he’s near-sighted, this was a bit of a problem, so I thought that new glasses would be the perfect gift. I’ve always had a fondness for sunnies, but shoot, I’ve never been so sad to have perfect vision in all my life! I found some retro cateye Ray Ban eyeglasses that really wanted to come home with me, but I had a hard time justifying the purchase. I may soon develop an early onset presbyopia (unavoidable age-related farsightedness)—don’t worry, had to Google that one—or something.

I wore this today to go to lunch with my boyfriend and his friends for his birthday—birthdays are a weeklong celebration right? Anyways, it’s been chilly, which I love because I get to wear my favorite motorcycle jacket and finally breaking out some of my fall scarves too. I think this checked one is a great print for fall and always sassies up an otherwise more simple outfit.

I hope all you lovelies are having a wonderful week so far, much love!

Prep Talk

So this is my “nod to the crispy Seattle weather” (I couldn’t help it, it’s raining and I’m wearing flannel) and my take on I-borrowed-this-from-my-boyfriend meets ladylike, which is a style I love. I’m still thrilled with two of my best thrift purchases ever: these high rise, slim fit vintage levi’s, which were in perfect condition by the way, and go from rocker to vintage to preppy in a flash, perfect for my easily swayed moods, and this old leather satchel. What gems!

I’m usually more long-winded, but I think I’ve used up all my brain power throughout this work week, so Happy Friday!!

Fantastic Ms. Fox

So have you all seen the current issue of Vogue featuring Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe? Ohhhmyyy, I love her, in fact she inspired my haircut earlier this year. Anyways, the cover and photo spread is beautiful and I’m still working through the interview, but I always admire beautiful women who are also intelligent, creative, and talented and I think she is the perfect fit to play the mysterious and dynamic Marilyn. The other features in this month’s issue (including the Fantastic Ms. Fox) are also quite lovely and my look today was inspired by all of the fur and textures featured in the issue and also the brooding weather I woke up to this morning as a big storm is moving into the desert mountains today.

Much love to all!

Pretty Paisley

I love a subtle paisley print and this silk, flowy top is just so. I wanted a classic chic look today for work, but updated with modern twists, so I chose the paisley print, chunky heeled platform shoes, a structured satchel, and a well-tailored trench from Banana Republic. I know I’ve mentioned before, but I really take fashion inspiration from a variety of sources, sometimes I feel like sweet and ladylike, sometimes edgy or retro, and I love being able to mix things up depending on my mood.

I hope you like this look! Your comments on my photos have been so sweet and thank you for the compliments on my style, photos, and even my hair! :) Work has been so tough lately and this blog has been such a great outlet and source of support and fun amidst my crazy so-called-life.  Much love to all!

Seahorse Run

I took the opportunity to spend some time up in the Rocky Mountains today to enjoy the lovely fall weather and the spectacular colors of the changing leaves. I wish I could have captured each and every color to share with you all, but just picture the brightest yellows, corals, and reds that you can imagine. I promise to get up there to take more blog photos before the season changes to bitter cold.

This outfit was comfortable enough to get out and about in nature and also did the trick for a nice brunch and movie. And the two seahorses on this top are just so cute and added to my chipper mood (days off with my man tend to do that to me)! I’m still loving the femininity and balance of combining high waisted bottoms with cropped tops, and for fall, just incorporating more coverage and/or fall fabrics instead of shorts and tanks/tees. I’m also loving this tote to lug all of my school and art supplies around and also for sneaking a treat or two into the movies!

Thanks so much everyone for your sweet comments and inspiration!!

Not Horsing A-Round

Please forgive my pun on this one, I couldn’t resist, horses on my shirt + round glasses. Sometimes I struggle to come up with something clever, like yesterday, I was trying to think of a way to work in the Nirvana Nevermind 20th anniversary to my little blurb because I listened to the XM Town Hall interview with the band this weekend and it was so cool! After not coming up with anything good, I asked my boyfriend if anything in my picture reminded him of something Nirvana-related and he said “Smells Like Teen Spirit” lol—it will make sense if you look at my last picture.

I think art, music, and style all kind of live in the same world… Nirvana was undeniably a movement in the 90s, plaid shirt anyone? Much like Lady Gaga today or Madonna in the 80s, these artists affect the whole world like forever, probably more than they even set out to, and whether they or we (the world) like it. It sounds like Nirvana didn’t at all realize what they had created and the impact it would have when they recorded Nevermind, and it was so crazy hearing them talk about it, their group dynamic, and the imperfections being what they love most about the album.

Anyways, to link back to my campy pun, when it comes to fashion, it is fun, but I also like to think about it from a more serious stylistic/artistic perspective and I like considering all of the influences involved and their reciprocal relationships.

Hope you all had a great Monday!

Fall's First Stripes

So this is what I threw on today to run and pick up some take out for my man and me so we could eat while working on our homework. We’ve both been going a million miles an hour with work + school (he’s working on his master’s in education, so cute, he wants to teach 6th grade) but still always time for outfit photos right?? I felt like the long sleeves and boots kept the “fall” look, even though it’s still plenty warm for cutoffs!

I’ve had many 16+ hour days as of late, but I was thinking about it and realized the coolest thing about starting this style blog: when I’m in a huge rush, running to work or school, and I don’t have time to think about putting together an outfit, I can do a spin on an outfit I’ve blogged since I now have sort of this “archive” I can pull from—and I’ll admit, I’ve even repeated an outfit once or twice in a real pinch, is that a crime? I guess even Kate Middleton does a repeat now and then. But thankfully I have no paparazzi, and no one knows, not you all, because I’ll never blog it twice, and not the people in my classes who don’t see my blog :) Works out perfectly…

I think I’m going to post some of my art projects soon, so please, check back in the next few days!

Last Days of Summer

Did you realize tomorrow is the last official day of summer? For the northern hemisphere anyway… I guess it starts setting in when the Halloween garb is already permeating the stores, but fall is upon us! I took the opportunity to go bare-legged since it warmed up yesterday, but the chill is definitely around in the mornings and evenings and will soon be here for good. I combined my sweet pale pink sweater, lacy black shorts, and more edgy accessories including my studded bracelets to mix things up.

Speaking of last days of summer, this weekend I watched 500 Days of Summer—great flick if you get a chance. It’s a story about love (kind of sad too) and a nice way to say goodbye to summer and to welcome autumn.

Hope you like this look and thanks for the sweet comments you’ve left for me.
